Richard S. Appleton

Richard S. Appleton, DDS, MS, earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans after his undergraduate studies at LSU in Baton Rouge.

Following his graduation from the LSU Dental School, he completed his postdoctoral residency program in Prosthodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.  In addition to earning his Certificate of Specialization he also earned a Master of Science degree in Prosthodontics.  His research involved the study of dental implants.

During his postdoctoral residency at UTHSCSA, Dr. Appleton spent three years of extensive training in the full scope of the Prosthodontic specialty, including reconstruction of the decimated dentition resulting from trauma, birth defect, severe wear, etc.; replacing single teeth, multiple teeth, or all of the teeth with dental implant prostheses; complete dentures, partial dentures, crowns, fixed bridges; dental ceramics, and dental laboratory technology.

Graduating in the top of his class at LSU Dental School in 1994, Dr. Appleton was one of only two applicants — and the only one from Louisiana — accepted in the internationally competitive UTHSCSA Postdoctoral Prosthodontics program.  A second generation Prosthodontist, he returned to Baton Rouge in 1997 and practiced with his father before opening his new state of the art practice at the end of 2007.

Because the fields of prosthodontics, dental implantology, and dental ceramics are continually changing, Dr. Appleton strongly believes that continuing education and employing technology are the keys to providing his patients with the finest quality of care. He thus attends lecture hours in excess of 100 per year, five times the amount necessary to fulfill the minimum of state required dental continuing education.

Dr. Appleton is an active member of the American College of Prosthodontics, the International College of Prosthodontics, the Academy of Osseointegration (the science of dental implants), the American Dental Association, the Louisiana Dental Association, and the Greater Baton Rouge Dental Association. He is licensed to practice in Louisiana.

To insure the highest quality of care for his patients, Dr. Appleton has incorporated a full-service dental ceramics and implant dentistry laboratory into his new prosthodontics practice.  This promotes the highest level of communication with the dental laboratory technicians for predictable, esthetic, and functional results to meet the highest expectation of even the most demanding patient.
